Abstract

This study was done to identify patient outcomes at nursing researches in Korea. Target population of this study were experimental researches performed as Doctoral dissertations or master¢¥s theses in the field or nursing science, or researches published at The Journal of Nurses Academic society from 1970 to 1996 in Korea. Inclusion criteria for selection of the subjects were patient outcome as the dependent variable, Patient as the subject and treatment by nurse. Exclusion criteria were normal newborn baby as the subject, and institutionalized elderly as the subject.

The subjects of this study were 190 theses and 32 researches published at the Journal and data on the patient outcomes were collected from the subjects. 287 cases of patient outcome criteria were collected. The patient outcome criteria were classified with the areas of physical, psycho-social, behavioral, and cognitive, and with the positive or negative meaning.

Results of the study were

(1) ¢¥Anxiey¢¥ was found as the most frequently used patient outcome criteria(20.2%) and pain, self-care were followed in order.

(2) Patient outcome criteria included to the psycho-social area were used most frequently(40.1%).

(3) The positive patient outcome criteria were used more than the negative criteria(56.1%).
